Audio in the Classroom

There are many ways that you can use audio in the classroom. From past and current field experiences, I've noticed that most of my teachers used recorded books or audiobooks in the classroom. Students would use audiobooks in small groups, independent reading, and for the whole class. Audiobooks help motivate students to enjoy reading. These recorded books promote reading skills such as comprehension, fluency, and vocabulary. Recorded books can also help ESL students and struggling students who have problems with reading print text.

Podcasts are also a great tool of audio to use in the classroom. Podcasts help students plan, prepare, and record any ideas. Podcast can be used for group projects throughout the curriculum for students. For example, students that are in upper grades learning about romantic literature can use podcasts to reenact a scene. Each group member can be assigned a part to act out. This helps students who are nervous to present in front of the classroom. Podcast can also help students who are absent from class. Teachers can upload lectures, classroom assignments, and homework for those students.

Music is also a way of audio being integrated in the classroom. Teachers can use different types of music to help with teaching a lesson. For a language arts lesson, I would use music for a writing lesson. I would have my students figure out the mood of the song. I would also use music when talking about different cultures around the world.
